📝 Abstract (English)
Maintaining the vaccine cold chain (2-8 °C) is a major challenge in tropical settings (outages, heat up to 60 °C surface, cost of synthetic carriers). This study evaluates a raphia vinifera fiber-insulated cooling bag (cotton-wax outer + raphia inner) as a passive vaccine carrier through experimental, analytical and numerical methods, in lab and real tropical conditions with varied ice mass, cold accumulators and simulated vials. It holds 1.7-3 °C for over 11 hours in mild conditions and up to 9 hours in extreme conditions, covering a vaccination day. Low raphia conductivity, low-cost, electricity-free, local resources: a promising alternative to synthetic carriers.
